EMDR THERAPY FORT COLLINS

EMDR therapy Fort Collins John Kinnaird LCSW

EMDR therapy in Fort Collins at Mindful Transitions offers a proven, compassionate path to healing from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and the wounds that talk therapy alone sometimes cannot reach.

My name is John Kinnaird. I have been providing EMDR therapy since 2006 and hold a Level II EMDR certification. Over nearly two decades I have witnessed EMDR create profound and lasting change for people who felt stuck, overwhelmed, or held back by experiences they couldn’t move past on their own.

WHAT IS EMDR THERAPY?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — EMDR — is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and heal from traumatic or distressing experiences. When we go through trauma, the brain sometimes stores those memories in a raw, unprocessed state. This can leave us feeling as though the past is happening in the present — through flashbacks, anxiety, or emotional reactions we can’t seem to change.

EMDR works by engaging the brain’s natural healing process. Using bilateral stimulation — typically guided eye movements or using hand held alternating vibration — EMDR helps the nervous system reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge. The past becomes something that happened to you, rather than something that is still happening to you.

WHAT CAN EMDR HELP WITH?

  • Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Childhood abuse — physical, emotional, or sexualAnxiety and panic
  • Depression rooted in past experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Car accidents and injury
  • Relationship trauma and narcissistic abuse
  • Addiction with underlying trauma
  • Life transitions that feel overwhelming

WHAT TO EXPECT IN AN EMDR SESSION

EMDR therapy at Mindful Transitions is always conducted within the context of a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship. Before any processing begins we spend time building a clear understanding of your history, your goals, and the specific experiences you want to heal.

Sessions are 55 minutes. Additionally, EMDR does not require you to speak in detail about traumatic events. Because of this, many clients find EMDR one of the most approachable forms of trauma therapy available. The work happens at a pace that feels manageable and safe for you.

MY APPROACH TO EMDR

I use EMDR as part of an integrative approach that draws on my background in neuroscience, mindfulness, and 30 years of clinical experience. I believe healing is not just about reducing symptoms — it is about helping you develop a deeper, more compassionate understanding of yourself and the resilience to move life forward.

EMDR is one of the most powerful tools I use to help people do exactly that.

My office is located in Fort Collins; conveniently accessible to clients traveling from Loveland, Greeley, Windsor, and the surrounding Northern Colorado area. I also offer telehealth sessions online throughout Colorado. If distance has kept you from reaching out, telehealth makes access simple and convenient.
