RETURNING TO COUPLES THERAPY IN FORT COLLINS — ALL RELATIONSHIPS WELCOME
I am excited to announce that I have returned to offering couples therapy in Fort Collins and Colorado at Mindful Transitions after a short hiatus. This return feels meaningful to me — couples work has always been some of the most rewarding and profound work I do as a therapist. I am honored to open that door again.
At Mindful Transitions I welcome all relationship structures. Whether you are in a traditional marriage, a dating partnership, a non-traditional relationship, or an LGBTQ+ relationship — you are welcome here. Every partnership deserves a safe, compassionate space to do this work. You are welcome here exactly as you are.
Inspired by Dr. Orna Guralnik
If you have watched Showtime’s Couples Therapy featuring Dr. Orna Guralnik, you may already have a sense of the kind of work I am drawn to. I am a genuine admirer of Dr. Guralnik’s approach — her patience, her depth, and her remarkable ability to hold space for both partners simultaneously while gently uncovering what is truly happening beneath the surface of a relationship.
What I appreciate most about her work is that she does not settle for the presenting argument. She understands that when couples fight about the dishes, the finances, or whose turn it is to pick up the kids — they are rarely actually fighting about those things. The real conversation is happening underneath. And that is precisely where the most meaningful therapeutic work lives.
The Relationship Is the Client
In my approach to couples therapy in Fort Collins, I hold a fundamental belief that shapes everything I do — the relationship itself is the client. Not one partner. Not the other. The dynamic between you, the patterns you have built together, the unspoken agreements and unresolved wounds that live in the space between you — that is what we are working with.
This means I am not here to take sides. Additionally, I am not here to declare a winner or assign blame. I am here to help both of you understand what is happening below the surface — the unconscious patterns, the attachment histories, the ways your individual stories are colliding and intertwining in your relationship right now.
Furthermore, I believe that most relationship conflict is not about poor communication. It is about difference — different worldviews, different attachment histories, different needs and fears that have never been fully seen or understood by either partner. When we slow down and explore those differences with curiosity rather than defensiveness, something profound becomes possible.
What This Work Looks Like
Like Dr. Guralnik, I take my time. Couples therapy is not a place for quick fixes or communication scripts. It is a space to slow down, go deeper, and understand yourself and your partner in ways that create lasting change rather than temporary relief.
In our sessions together we will explore:
- The patterns and dynamics that keep you stuck in the same cycles
- How each partner’s history and attachment style shapes the relationship
- What lies beneath the surface arguments — the fears, needs, and longings that drive conflict
- How to build a relationship where both partners feel genuinely seen, heard, and respected
- The unconscious agreements and dynamics that operate outside of your awareness
Sessions are 55 minutes. Couples therapy at Mindful Transitions is available as private pay only — which means complete confidentiality without the requirement of a clinical diagnosis. Therefore, what happens in the therapy room stays entirely between us.
All Relationships Welcome
I want to be clear and explicit about this — Mindful Transitions is a fully inclusive practice. I work with married couples, dating partners, non-traditional and polyamorous partnerships, and LGBTQ+ relationships with equal care, respect, and commitment. Every partnership is welcomed here.
